Would-be Watch Buyer Attacked by Supposed Seller

Lakeview (WALK) - Not everyone you meet online is who they say they are.

A Long Island man learned that the hard way after he was attacked by someone who he thought was going to sell him a Rolex watch. The victim, 44, a Nassau man whose name is not being released by police, had responded to an ad on Craigslist that offered the fancy watch for sale. He agreed to meet the seller at the corner of Robin Court and Park Avenue in Lakeview on Sunday afternoon.

After meeting the victim there, the supposed watch-seller pulled a handgun from a blue backpack he was carrying. The two struggled, and the suspect then got away in a waiting SUV. The suspect was not robbed and no one was hurt, according to detectives.

Police say the vehicle was a blue GMC or Chevy SUV. The car fled onto Eagle Avenue and then onto the westbound Southern State Parkway.

Detectives ask that anyone with information about this crime call Nassau Crimestoppers anonymously at (800) 220-TIPS. All callers can remain anonymous.
