Vehicle Inspection Station Named to Honor Officer Glen Ciano

Commack - (WALK)  A new truck inspection station will carry the name of a Suffolk County police officer who was killed when a drunken driver smashed into his patrol car in 2009.

A dedication ceremony was held in Commack Tuesday to honor the late Officer Glen Ciano. Ciano was 45 and a 22-year veteran of the Suffolk police when he was killed in February of 2009.

The inspection site is located on the west side of Crooked Hill Road, between Commack Road and Henry Street, not far from Ciano's fatal crash.  Authorities say there are similar sites along the Long Island Expressway, but a site on a side road will be safer for officers as they conduct inspections.

The new site will be used for inspecting commercial trucks, school buses, party buses, stretch limousines, and motor coaches, according to police.
