North Babylon (WALK)- Police are reportedly investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash that took 5 lives, including 3 children, on the Southern State Parkway over the weekend.
The fiery crash killed 5 members of a Brooklyn family as they headed home from a family gathering in Brentwood. Myriam Lebrun, 37, was at the wheel of a Honda Accord that suddenly veered off the parkway near Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon and hit a tree.
Lebrun was killed, along with her mother Yolande Moise, 68, and her three children Marcel, 9, Kayla, 8, and Marcus Jeanty, 14.
The crash happened around 11 PM Saturday night, according to state police. The sedan burst into flames after the collision. Other drivers stopped to try to help, but say they couldn't get close to the car because of the flames. One person had been ejected but the others were trapped inside, responders say.
Troopers are still trying to determine why Lebrun's car left the road and ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call (631) 756-3300.
