Wantagh - (WALK) Thousands of Long Islanders were joined by neighbors throughout the Tri-State area for the 13th annual Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk Sunday at Jones Beach State Park. Organizers say approximately 7,500 walkers participated.
Many of the walkers lost loved ones to pancreatic cancer or were in some, personal way impacted by the disease.
The Lustgarten Foundation is based in Bethpage, and is named in memory of media executive Marc Lustgarten of Cablevision, who died from the disease in 1999. Cablevision underwrites expenses for the foundation, so all donations can be applied to research, according to walk organizers.
The Lustgarten Foundation research laboratory was established in 2012 and is located at Cold Spring Harbor.
