Brookhaven (WALK) - The Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter hopes pet lovers will step forward to offer temporary homes for its dogs, as the shelter prepares for a kennel renovation.
Town officials appealed for volunteers to take in homeless dogs for a period of 3 to 4 weeks next month while renovation work is completed. The project is scheduled to begin on January 6th but it can't start until 40 dogs are relocated.
Town Supervisor Ed Romaine says the work really needs to get done right away.
“I’ve always found that animal lovers step up when needed,” said Romaine. “With only a few weeks to go before [work] begins, I am hoping that our residents will heed the call and take a dog home, even if it’s just for a little while.”
Anyone interested in temporarily adopting a dog like Andre (pictured at left) should call or visit the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. The center is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 AM to 4 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM. It is closed on Wednesday.
