Suspicious Fire at Nassau's Tackapausha Preserve

Seaford (WALK) - Arson investigators are probing a suspicious blaze at a popular nature preserve on the South Shore.

The fire destroyed a small storage building on the grounds of the Tackapausha Preserve in Seaford. It was first reported by someone who called 911 around 7 PM Sunday night.

The Seaford Fire Department extinguished the flames, but not before substantial damage was done to the building, which is located on Merrick Road. No one was hurt.

The Tackapausha Preserve was Nassau's first land preserve purchase, originally acquired for drainage purposes, back in 1938. The 84-acre site includes a museum, the Tackapausha Pond and 5 miles of marked trails.

Anyone with information that might be helpful to investigators is asked to contact Nassau Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-8477. All calls will remain confidential.
