Suspects Sought in LI Church Theft

Freeport (WALK) - Police are investigating a strange incident that included the theft of a statue outside a local church.

Detectives say someone stole a statue of St. Joseph from the church grounds at Our Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church in Freeport. In addition, the same person apparently moved a statue of St. Francis of Assisi. It had been located on the southwest side of the church's South Ocean Avenue property but was found at the front of the building.

The theft happened last Saturday night around 9:30 PM, according to police. The St. Francis of Assisi statue was not damaged.
