Valley Stream (WALK) - A Queens teenager is in police custody in connection with two recent attacks on women in southwest Nassau.
Nashane Peterkin of Springfield Gardens has been charged in the rape of a woman in her 60s at Valley Stream State Park. The attack happened over Labor Day weekend on an isolated park trail.
Peterkin, 16, is also charged with the attack on a pregnant woman as she walked home from the Valley Stream train station on August 12th. He was allegedly riding by on a bicycle when he stopped and grabbed the victim. The woman fought off her attacker, even though she was seven months pregnant.
The teenager is facing several serious charges, including rape, sexual abuse and assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Hempstead.
Investigators have said previously that they believe whoever committed the train station attack also attacked a woman during a home invasion in Lynbrook 20 minutes before that, but Peterkin has not been charged in that incident. The assailant in Lynbrook fled on a bicycle when the woman screamed for help.
