Central Islip (WALK) - Families in one Long Island community are stunned at news that a local lacrosse coach is facing child pornography charges, especially since he's also a cop.
SeanMichael Pagano of Mount Sinai was arrested yesterday by the FBI and is being held without bail after being arraigned at federal court in Central Islip. Pagano allegedly downloaded images from a website run out of a home in Alaska that agents raided a year ago. The FBI took over the site after that.
Pagano, 37, is a veteran state police investigator. He was also recently hired as an assistant lacrosse coach for the Rocky Point School District after volunteering there for several months. Prior to that, he was the head coach of the men's lacrosse team at Briarcliffe College for several years.
The suspect's attorney says he is not guilty. The FBI says that Pagano claimed to have downloaded the images as part of an investigation but State Police officials reportedly told the FBI that Pagano was not authorized to conduct such a probe.
Pagano was suspended without pay from his police job after his arrest and he has reportedly been relieved of his coaching duties in Rocky Point.
