Bay Shore (WALK) - There's a search under way this morning for a missing Islip woman who may be suicidal, according to police.
Authorities have issued a Silver Alert for Janet Reuther, who went missing Sunday from Southside Hospital in Bay Shore prior to being treated. Reuther, 52, suffers from depression, according to investigators.
The missing woman is described as white and 5'4" tall with brown hair. She weighs 150 pounds and is missing part of an index finger. Reuther was last seen wearing jeans and a flowered shirt, and she may be driving a blue 1996 Toyota Corolla with Florida license Plate 3480HA.
Anyone who thinks they've seen Reuther or has information her whereabouts is asked to contact Third Squad detectives at (631) 854-8352.
Silver Alert is a program implemented in Suffolk County that allows local law enforcement to release information about individuals with special needs who have been reported missing. It is similar to the Amber Alert for missing children.
