SCPD: Serial Bank Robber Nabbed in Nesconset

Yaphank - (WALK) A Kings Park man is accused of robbing at least seven banks during a two week period, according to Suffolk Police.

Brian Blackford, 40, and an alleged get-away driver, Fitzalla Coward, 51, of Brentwood, were arrested Monday after attempting to rob a Capital One Bank branch on Smithtown Boulevard in Nesconset Monday afternoon.

Police say Blackford handed a note to a teller and was caught running to a waiting car after the teller complied with his demand.  He and Coward were arrested shortly before 3:00 p.m. without incident.

Blackford is a suspect in bank robberies including at a Capital One branch in Deer Park on May 24, a Bank of America branch in Commack on May 27, a Bethpage Federal Credit Union in Farmingdale on May 29, a Capital One in Farmingdale on June 2, a TD Bank branch in Sayville on June 3, and a Citibank in North Lindenhurst on June 5. Blackford and Coward were nabbed in Nesconset Monday.

Blackford is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Tuesday.
