SCPD: Mom, 3 Children Killed in Shirley House Fire

Shirley - (WALK) Investigators continue their work in Shirley, where a mother and three children were killed in a Friday evening house fire on Hollywood Drive.

The victims are identified as Jennifer McCusker, 41, and her children; Aidan Tarbel, seven; and two-year-old twins Brendan and Ava Jane Mistretta.  All four were pronounced dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. The cause of their deaths, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Suffolk police.

Firefighters from five departments responded to the call at 16 Hollywood Drive, a brick ranch-style house east of William Floyd Parkway, at about 10:15 p.m.  The fire was under control by 10:50 p.m., two firefighters were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, according to fire officials.

Authorities say Friday's incident is the most deadly house fire on Long Island since four people were killed in their home in Lawrence in four years ago.
