Stony Brook - (WALK) An investigation continues into the death of a Kings Park man who was injured during a struggle with police at Stony Brook University Hospital.
On September 24 police responded to a call about Lawrence Ports, 60, of Hemlock Drive, behaving irrationally. Members of the Suffolk County Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team were called, and they determined Ports should be taken to the hospital.
While at the hospital, Ports became combative and tried to run away from the police officers. In the course of being restrained, Ports suffered a head injury, according to Suffolk police. He was treated at the scene, and remained at Stony Brook University Hospital as his condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead on Friday, October 11.
An investigation continues into the incident, and an autopsy is being conducted by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, according to police.
