Southampton - (WALK) The victim of a fatal crash involving an alleged drunken driver in Southampton Friday was an immigrant from Scotland who had caddied for celebrities, was engaged to be married, and aspired to work the Professional Golf Association Tour.
Neil Fyfe, 29, was recently employed by the Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton. He was struck by a Jeep and killed while attempting to cross County Road 39 on his bicycle at Sandy Hollow Road in Southampton shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday. Fyfe, late of Jupiter, Florida, was pronounced dead at Southampton Hospital.
The driver of the Jeep, Jesse W. Steudte, 21, treated at the scene for minor injuries and charged with driving while intoxicated, said Southampton Town Police.
Steudte, of Southampton, is a junior at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Saturday and is being held on $25,000 cash bail.
Fyfe (photo) worked seasonally in Florida and on Long Island. He caddied in Florida for celebrities including NBA Hall of Fame superstar Michael Jordan and for professional golfers. He was engaged to marry his fiance in October.
