Halesite - (WALK) Veteran News 12 Long Island news anchor and reporter Judy Martin was found dead in her home in Halesite Friday evening, according to Suffolk police. She was 49.
The cause of Martin's death was described as "undetermined" by police Saturday, but authorities say criminality is not suspected.
Martin joined News 12 Long Island in 1988, shortly after its inception as our region's first, all-news cable television station. She covered epic local events such as the crash of Avianca Flight 52 in 1990, and the 911 terror attacks on New York in 2001.
Martin was an Emmy award winning television journalist who also found success in public radio. Her recent personal and professional activities also included yoga instruction and blogging about work-life balance.
Martin's local ties are deep: she attended Baldwin High School and earned an undergraduate degree in communications and broadcast journalism from New York Institute of Technology/Old Westbury.
