Rockville Centre - (WALK) Long Island's 1.5 million Roman Catholics are celebrating the installment of a new auxilliary bishop, the first immigrant to hold the post in the Dioces of Rockville Centre, the 6th largest Roman Catholic diocese in the United States.
Bishop Andrzej Jerzy Zglejszewski, 52, is a native of Poland, and a graduate of the seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Lloyd Harbor. He was installed to the role of auxiliary bishop during a ceremony at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, Tuesday.
Zglejszewski was previously co-chancellor of the diocese, and was named to his new post by Pope Francis in Februrary.
