Levittown - As vandalism goes, it was... different: five teens are accused of dumping crushed, black rubber into seven Town of Hempstead pools in August, according to Nassau Police.
The vandalism was discovered early on Wednesday, August 21. The dollar-damage was not disclosed by police Monday.
Three of the young people were identified by police Monday. Each is 17, from Levittown, and is charged as an adult: Alexander Maher, of Terry Lane, Courtney Erin Kelly, of Chimney Lane, and James Slattery, of Poppy Lane. Two others, ages 14 and 15, are charged as juveniles and their names and addresses were not released by police.
The targeted pools were: Slate Lane Pool; Acorn Lane Pool; Bluegrass Lane Pool; North Village Green Pool; Azalea Road Pool; East Village Green Pool; and West Village Green Pool, all located in the Levittown area.
Four of the young people were arrested between September 1 and September 3, Maher was arrested Sunday, September 15, according to police. Charges against them include criminal mischief and reckless endangerment of property.
It was not made clear what motivated the attacks, where the teens obtained the crushed rubber, nor how it was transported to seven public pools before dawn.
