Dix Hills (WALK) - Police aren't saying what led them to their suspect, but they've made an arrest in a hit-and-run that took the life of an Amityville man over the holiday weekend.
Albert DiBernardo of Melville (pictured at left) is charged with running down a bicyclist on the LIE Service Road in Dix Hills. The body of Ricardo Fernandez, 44, was found by police after the remains were spotted by a passing motorist around 10 AM Monday on Express Drive North, about a quarter mile east of Burrs Lane.
DiBernardo, 28, is charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident. He is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
Fernandez was wearing cycling clothing and shoes when he was struck, and was riding a blue and orange Lemond racing bike.
Anyone who might have information that can help investigators is asked to call the Vehicular Crimes Unit at (631) 852-6555 or Suffolk Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police.
