Dubai, UAE - (WALK) Pyrotechnic experts from "Fireworks by Grucci" have been commissioned to help the Persian Gulf city of Dubai welcome 2014 with an attempt to set a world record for fireworks displays.
On Year's Eve the sky above Dubai will be the pallet for a display painted across the entire Palm Jumeirah and the Islands of the World. The six-minute display will feature 450,000 fireworks deployed from 400 locations, according to officials.
The famous Dubai "Palm Crescent" will also be illuminated with floating pontoons used as launch platforms, according to published accounts.
Dubai is a city of more than two million, and is one of seven communities who comprise the United Arab Emirates. Dubai's attempt to break the world record will be monitored by representatives of Guinness World Records. The current world record holder is the nation of Kuwait, who deployed 77,282 fireworks to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their constitution.
