Life in Prison for Convicts in Islip Torture-Murders

Central Islip - (WALK) Two Long Island men convicted of setting a house on fire, while two children were inside, to cover-up the torture and murder of three people will each spend life in prison.

Hasan Vaughan, 36, was sentenced to life in prison without parole and Thomas Singletary, 36, was sentenced to 100 years to life, for their roles in a triple murder in Central Islip in August of 2009.

Prosecutors say the crime was motivated by Vaughan's belief that one of the victims, his girlfriend Katrice Daniels, 31, had stolen his laptop computer, credit cards and jewelry.  Daniels, her sister Mykier Daniels, 28, and her friend Louis Calixto Jr., 19, were tortured before they were killed in Katrice Daniels' home. Vaughan and Singletary then set fire to the house to cover their crime.  The children managed to escape to safety.

Attorneys for Vaughan and Singletary say they will appeal the sentences.
