Tarrytown (WALK) - Police in Westchester are investigating the shooting death of a Hicksville woman, killed while "examining firearms" at a home in Tarrytown Monday.
Police say Megan Bookstaver, 23 was with her boyfriend, Eric Gaulin, 25, and another person in a bedroom at Gaulin's parents' home when a weapon discharged and she was shot in the head. Police responded to a 911 call before 4:30 p.m. Monday.
There were no arrests in the case as of early Thursday morning, although police are reportedly investigating Bookstaver's death as "suspicious."
Bookstaver was 2008 graduate of Hicksville High School and a senior at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, where she reportedly majored in forensic psychology.
Family members described Bookstaver her as an avid shooter and markswoman who grew up hunting with her father and often enjoyed visiting shooting ranges.
