West Babylon - (WALK) Generations of Long Islanders will see his name, and be reminded of his service. A bridge on Route 109 spanning Sunrise Highway in West Babylon is now the Peter Figoski Memorial Bridge.
Detective Figoski was a father of four daughters and a resident of West Babylon. He was assigned to the NYPD 75th precinct, and was fatally shot while responding to a robbery in Brooklyn nearly two years ago. He was promoted, posthumously, to the rank of detective.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation last week to approve renaming the bridge in honor of Detective Figoski. Peter Figoski was 47.
