Wantagh - (WALK) More than 60,000 people, including many breast cancer survivors, participated in Sunday's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk" at Jones Beach.
The annual event is a four-mile trek along the Jones Beach boardwalk, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Funds are used to help the American Cancer Society support and provide resources to newly-diagnosed women and men, and invest in research to find a cure. Organizers say it is the largest such anti-breast cancer walk in the U.S.
According to the American Cancer Society: each year more than 230 thousand women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer, and the disease will take approximately 40,000 lives, including more than 2,400 cases diagnosed and 400 deaths on Long Island.
