Hit-and-Run Driver With a Guilty Conscience in Nassau?

Garden City (WALK) - He drove off after running down a pedestrian, but he may have had a guilty conscience.

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who did something quite unusual after an accident yesterday in Garden City. Witnesses told police that the man got out of his pickup truck and covered the victim with a blanket before fleeing the scene without identifying himself.

It happened just before 6 PM on Commercial Boulevard. Detectives say the victim is in serious condition with a fractured pelvis and a severe head laceration.

The driver is described as white and in his 50s, with a thin build and of average height. He was wearing a black jacket and red hat. The pickup truck was dark in color with a cab and two-tone bottom, according to witnesses.

Detectives ask that anyone with information about the truck or its driver contact Nassau Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS. All callers can remain anonymous.
