Glen Cove - (WALK) The City of Glen Cove has jumped ahead of New York State and adopted a local ban on sales of electronic cigarettes to anyone under the age of 19, according to published accounts.
The Glen Cove City Council voted unanimously to limit e-cig sales and to restrict product advertising within 1,000 feet of city schools, youth centers and daycare centers. Signage related to e-cigs would also be banned on building exteriors, and interiors, --the sign is visible from outside the building.
When in effect, business owners in violation of the law would reportedly be subjected to fines of between $100 to $3,000.
Electronic cigarettes are smoke-free, but use water vapor to deliver nicotine, an addictive drug, to the user.
The New York State Legislature is considering similar legislation and may pass a state-wide ban on e-cig sales to minors by the end of June.
