Girlfriend Dead, Boyfriend Arrested After Suffolk Standoff

Ridge (WALK) - A woman is dead and her boyfriend is charged with murder after a shootout and standoff with Suffolk police on Sunday.

Officers raced to the Brookwood apartment complex in Ridge just before 12 noon Sunday after reports of screaming and shots fired. They found the body of Kimberly Sellitto outside the home of her boyfriend, Jose Rodriguez. Sellitto, 36, had been shot.

Police say Rodriguez then barricaded himself in his apartment along with his two kids. The children were soon released safely, but Rodriguez then exchanged gunfire with officers, according to police. No one was hit.

Rodriguez, 32, was eventually talked into surrendering by hostage negotiators, police say.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned today on murder charges at First District Court in Central Islip.
