Shirley - (WALK) A Mastic Beach mom faces felony charges for allegedly driving drunk early Sunday with a two year old child in her car, a violation of Leandra's Law, just days after police say she caused a crash in West Babylon.
Julieann Klopfer, 33, of Cypress Drive, was arrested at a Suffolk police sobriety checkpoint at the Exit 58 south ramp from Sunrise Highway in Shirley shortly after 12:30 a.m.
Officers determined Klopfer was intoxicated, and say her fiance's son was in the backseat of her vehicle, a '98 Mercedes.
Klopfer is charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra's Law), and endangering the wefare of a child.
Sunday's charges follow an incident on Tuesday, August 26, when Klopfer was accused of causing a crash with injuries at the intersection of Straight Path and Little East Neck Road in West Babylon.
Police say Klopfer was driving a Chevy Suburban SUV when she caused a crash, damaging two cars and injuring another driver. Klopfer reportedly told police her brakes had failed. She was ticketed for speeding, running a red light and driving with a suspended license.
