Mineola - (WALK) The family of a Long Beach man killed in his jail cell, allegedly by another inmate two years ago, is suing Nassau County for $10 million.
Antwan Brown, 26, was locked in his cell when he was beaten and killed on January 7, 2012, according to a federal suit filed earlier this month by Brown's sister, Shakeria Little.
Little claims corrections officers on duty were aware of the attack on her brother, but did nothing to protect him.
At the time of his death Bown (photo) was being held for the alleged assault and robbery of a woman in West Hempstead. Prosecutors say he beat a woman and tried to steal her handbag. He was also accused of injuring a police officer at the NCPD 5th Precint while under arrest.
The accused killer, Charles Creekmur of Brooklyn, was imprisoned at the time on robbery and weapons charges. His attorney says Creekmur acted in self-defense. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
