Dog Used as a Weapon?

Bellmore - (WALK) Nassau police are sorting out the details of an unusual incident involving an 18-year-old man, a pit bull dog and a terrified family in Bellmore Sunday.

Police say the story began with two women arguing in an appartment on Bellmore Avenue shortly after midnight Sunday.  Cops say the man, Luis Linares, also of Bellmore Avenue got involved in the dispute, and sicced his pit bull dog on one of the women.  The dog chased her upstairs, and bit her on the leg as she tried to enter her apartment.

Linares and the dog entered the apartment and the victim locked herself into a bathroom for safety, said detectives.  Linares banged on the bathroom door until he punched a two-foot hole in the door, --and again ordered the dog to attack. The woman's two children, boys, ages eight and ten, locked themselves in another room of the apartment, according to Nassau police.

Police say the victim was treated for the wound to her leg, and her children were not physically harmed.

Linares was arrested shortly before 2:00 a.m. Sunday and charged with assault, burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
