Patchogue (WALK) - Charges may be filed against the man who fatally shot a Long Island man during a hunting incident in upstate Westford, New York.
Charles Bruce, 52, of Franklin Square was apparently shot and killed by his friend on Saturday, the first day of hunting season, at dusk. The shooter told authorities he mistook Bruce for a deer. Westford is in Otsego County, near Onteonta, New York.
Bruce was a 17-year volunteer with the Malverne Fire Department and reportedly the father of two children, ages 22 and 18. Other members of the department were reportedly among the hunters.
The name of the shooter was not released, as he has not been charged in Bruce's death. Prosecutors in Otsego County say it may be 90 days before the full case comes before a grand jury.
