Riverhead - (WALK) Four Suffolk men are accused of breaking into and ransacking more than 20 homes during the past six months to finance their addiction to heroin.
The suspects are James Buchanan, Michael Hall, Chris Parides, and John Anastasiou. Buchanan, 28, of Melville, is regarded as the ringleader of the crew responsible for at least 21 daytime burglaries in North Shore Communities from Cold Spring Harbor to Rocky Point since November, said prosecutors Friday.
Prosecutors say the men would check to see if homes were empty, then break in and make for the master bedrooms where they would scoop-up jewelry, then pawn their prizes for money to purchase heroin, said Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota.
The suspects are being held on bail ranging from $150,000 to $500,000, according to officials.
