Central Islip - (WALK) Suffolk police are investigating an outbreak of violence in Central Islip Wednesday; featuring a car crash, gunfire, and delays on the Long Island Rail Road during an intense search for suspects.
Police say the drama, apparently sparked by a drug deal gone bad, erupted shortly after a confrontation involving four people in one car and the driver of another near the intersection of Suffolk Avenue and Allyn Court at about 1:00 p.m. For an undetermined reason a car chase ensued; shots were fired, and one vehicle crashed into a brick wall. Police say there were no injuries in the crash.
A bystander alerted police, who employed K-9 units, a helicopter and foot-patrols to search for suspects through late Wednesday afternoon.
Central Islip Schools were placed on lockdown during the search, and Long Island Rail Road service was interrupted as electricity was shut down while police searched along the tracks between Central Islip and Brentwood.
Police are investigating the case and ask anyone with information to call detectives at 631-854-8352.
