New Hyde Park (WALK) - Nassau police say a rapid and determined response netted two Brooklyn men, accused of shooting a police officer in New Hyde Park Wednesday.
Officer Mohit Arora, 32, of the NCPD 3rd Precinct remains in stable condition with a bullet wound to his hip. Mohit had responded to a burglary call on Campbell Street in New Hyde Park at about 2:00 a.m. Wednesday.
When Mohit (photo) and fellow officers arrived, a robbery suspect, Cong Xu, 21, of Brooklyn was seen running from the scene. Xu turned and fired several rounds from a handgun, striking Officer Mohit, according to Nassau police.
Mohit was taken by his partner to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, where he was listed in critical but stable condition after having surgery.
More than two dozen officers chased and apprehended Xu at Flower Lane and Nugent Street, according to published accounts. A second suspect, Renhang Qiu, 22, also of Brooklyn was arrested by officers near the intersection of Lakeville Road and Sylvia Lane.
Xu was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of an injury to his ear, according to police.
Xu and Qiu are both charged with burglary, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. Xu is charged with attempted murder of a police officer.
