East Hampton (WALK) - Police on the South Fork are investigating the death of an elderly man whose body was found after this week's snow storm.
The remains of Ralph Batalla, 84, were discovered by a snowplow operator outside his East Hampton home early Wednesday. He apparently died during during the storm from a medical episode of some kind, but police say an autopsy has to be completed in order to confirm that.
East Hampton Town police don't believe the death was storm-related, reportedly because Batalla didn't appear to have been doing anything strenuous when he died, such as shoveling snow.
The snowplower driver spotted Batalla's body just outside the front door of his home, where he lived by himself, around 7:30 AM. Investigators reportedly believe he died several hours before that, perhaps on Tuesday morning.
