Yaphank - (WALK) A suspected bank robber was bagged by Suffolk police, who tagged him in a traffic stop.
James Johnson, 44, of Coram is accused of robbing two banks and attempting to rob four others in Suffolk County during the past seven months.
Patrol officers say Johnson was driving erratically on Mill Road in Medford Wednesday when he was pulled over behind the wheel of a stolen 1997 Plymouth. Officers determined Johnson matched the description of a serial robbery suspect, and he was placed under arrest.
Investigator say Johnson is responsible for robbing a Capitol One Bank branch in Center Moriches in August and a Chase Bank in Bohemia in February. Johnson is also accused of attempting to rob a Bank of America branch in Medford on February 5, a Chase Bank in Farmingville on February 11, and a Capitol One branch in Brentwood Wednesday.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, drugs and weapons possession, robbery and attempted robbery, according to Suffolk police.
