Lake Ronkonkoma (WALK) - Arson detectives have now gotten involved in the investigation of a pre-dawn fire this week.
Investigators now say that the blaze that destroyed an abandoned adult home on Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma ws set deliberately. The flames were reportedly first spotted by a police officer who was driving by at around 3 AM Wednesday.
According to Stringer News Service, which posted a YouTube video of the building being consumed by flames, the volunteer firefighters at the scene were hampered at first by concrete barriers blocking the building's driveway. The barriers had apparently been erected to keep out trespassers, but wound up blocking fire trucks. One fire truck was used to pull the barrier out of the way so that other engines could get close to the building to battle the flames.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
