Levittown (WALK) - The family of a 13-year-old girl has posted a $5,000 reward for tips that lead police to the hit-and-run driver who left her to die on Hempstead Turnpike over the weekend.
Bryanna Soplin was crossing Hempstead Turnpike near Gardiners Avenue early Sunday when she was struck by a minivan. It happened just after midnight.
Police say they're looking for a blue Chrysler Town and Country minivan, model years 2011 to 2013. Witnesses last saw the minivan going east on Hempstead Turnpike before turning north onto the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. According to relatives, witnesses say the minivan ran a red light before hitting the teen.
Bryanna, who had Down Syndrome, was a student at Wisdom Lane Middle School in Levittown. Grief counselors will be available there today.
