Syosset (WALK) - Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a teenager who remains missing from a local group home, even as his two missing friends have been found, and are apparently safe.
Jonathan Acevedo, 15 (pictured at left), vanished over the weekend along with his friends Gabriel Hernandez, 16, and Shakeem Smith, 14, from MercyFirst, a group home on Convent Road in Syosset where the three live.
Hernandez and Smith were found this morning, though police aren't saying where they turned up. Investigators were especially worried about Smith, who has a cognitive disability, according to police.
Acevedo was last seen leaving the group home at 8 PM on Sunday, along with the other two teens. The home is one of several on Long Island and in New York City operated by MercyFirst, a nonprofit program of the Sisters of Mercy religious order.
Anyone with information on Acevedo's whereabouts is asked to contact the Nassau Police Missing Persons Squad at (516) 573-7347 or to call 911.
