Port Jefferson (WALK) - Two boaters are lucky to be alive after they were rescued from their burning vessel in the Long Island Sound on Sunday.
Suffolk Marine police raced to the scene about four miles north of Port Jefferson Harbor after getting a 911 call just before 2 PM. They found a 40-foot craft on fire, with flames shooting out of the back of the boat and its two passengers stranded at the front.
Cary Cieciuch, 50, and Kevin Totora, 42, both of Stratford, Connecticut were given oxygen and taken to shore in Port Jefferson. The two were treated for smoke inhalation but there were no other serious injuries for either of them.
