Patchogue (WALK) - Car into the water yesterday, first on the East end and then in Nassau County.
The drama began in the North Fork community of Cutchogue around 9 AM on Sunday when a Honda sedan skidded on the icy pavement on Broadwaters Road and wound up in chilly Broadwaters Creek. The driver, identified as Alejandra Moya of Westhampton Beach, reportedly got out of the overturned car by herself and went to a nearby home to call for help. Moya, 24, was not hurt.
About a half hour after the incident in Cutchogue, a similar incident unfolded in East Rockaway. An unidentified 24-year-old man apparently suffered a seizure or similar medical episode, causing him to lose control of his Cadillac. The car slid off a dock on Althouse Avenue and into the Mill River.
Once again, the driver got himself out. First responders say he was back on land by the time they arrived and was then taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Both cars were safely retrieved from the water.
