$1,000 Reward Offered in LI Animal Abuse Case

Islip (WALK) - The reward grows larger as the outrage grows greater.

The New York State Humane Society is offering $1,000 information leading to the conviction of whoever is responsible for mutilating and killing a rooster on Long Island.

Authorities say that the remains of the rooster were found hanging from a tree in Islip on Sunday, with its eyes plucked out. The horrific scene was spotted near the intersection of Spur Drive South.

The Suffolk SPCA says that a candle was found nearby, though authorities haven't said yet if they think this might have been some kind of ritualistic animal slaying.

Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross asks that anyone with information is urged to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.  All calls will be kept confidential.
